Volunteer with StreetCred!

StreetCred seeks to improve the life trajectories of America’s children by helping vulnerable families build assets and access evidence-based anti-poverty government programs. During the tax season, we provide free, low-income tax preparation for patients, their families, and the surrounding communities of hospitals, health clinics, and shelters.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program

The VITA program offers free tax preparation to people who generally make $66,000 or less, persons with disabilities, and limited English-speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals. For more information, visit www.irs.gov/vita. StreetCred partners with the Boston Tax Help Coalition (BTHC) to implement VITA sites in Boston’s hospitals, health clinics, and homeless shelters.

Volunteer Role

Volunteers are the cornerstone of StreetCred. It is only because of our committed and compassionate volunteers that we were able to return over $11,000,000 to low-income families since 2016. This is a great opportunity to engage with the community, to provide direct, face-to-face, or virtual service in a healthcare setting, and to feel great about putting cash right in the pockets of families who need it most.

Are you a student seeking real-life experience in exchange for academic credit? Let us know! We’ll work with you and your school to make sure you can get credit for volunteering with us!

Does your profession require continuing education? You may be able to get CE credits!

No prior tax knowledge is required! StreetCred and the Boston Tax Help Coalition provide all the training you will need to competently and confidently prepare tax returns.
